Kut, The Island of Vis, Croatia

Croatia is a remarkably unspoilt Mediterranean idyll and the island of Vis is charming even by those standards. Most of the population left Vis after the 2nd World War as Tito closed it for 40 years, so fortunately very little development has taken place and the little that does is closely watched.

Restaurants and cafes are within 100 yards of the house and in the other direction there are tiny beaches, shady pines and a small chapel dedicated to British servicemen – Vis has been a naval base since Nelson’s time. It is all a bit quirky but delightful!

No cars are permitted on the Riva until med September so bikes are there for a quick trip down to the market and the slightly brighter lights of the small town of Kut with its ancient Greek origins. It is all a bit like St. Tropez of long ago.

The House:

Shown in the harbour view above and is the white one in the middle. It is an old stone house on 3 floors, and has recently been beautifully renovated. With plenty of outside eating space, the sitting room and terrace are on the 2nd floor and overlook the quayside, which is usually full of yachts and activity.

The house sleeps 8 (or 11 in extremis) as follows:
