The Douro Valley, Portugal

The Douro Valley in Northern Portugal is famous for its port wine and now increasingly its table wines. The house, Quinta de Lamelas, is situated high above the river with stunning views of the river and steeply terraced hills, as shown in the photos below. It has one of the most spectacular views in the Douro valley and is in a remote and tranquil setting. There is much to do - from lounging around the pool to visiting and tasting many quintas producing local wines and ports. There is plenty of walking, nearby sightseeing (Mateus Palace), river and train trips.

The House:

The house dates from the 17th Century and was restored to the highest standard in 1992 with many original features being retained. The views are extraordinary. The house is located in a rural position down a 2 km cobbled narrow road which has a steep drop down the valley. It is located about 30 minutes from the nearest shops in Pinhão and from Quinta de la Rosa, the owner of Lamelas and wine producers. It sleeps 6.

Access and location:

The house is located 2 hours from Porto airport. Plenty of airlines fly to Porto. A car is essential.

The Owners say:

“When people arrive at Lamelas they have plenty of plans to visit the local area and even the seaside, but few manage to move from the peace and beauty of the house and pool. We have plenty of returning guests.”
