Achara House, Duror, Argyll

Argyll on the west coast of Scotland is famously lovely and this baronial house is set in its own estate in an area of outstanding natural beauty with its birch woodlands and indented rocky coastline. Oban and Fort William are nearby and the beach, ideal for picnics and walks, is just 15 minutes’ walk away from the house. Golf, boating, skiing, climbing and horse riding are just some of the many activities on the doorstep. A ghillie and salmon fishing could be arranged.

The House:

The House is a beautiful Scots baronial family home with all the charm of its era, yet the facilities of the present. Spacious and tastefully furnished it stands in very attractive gardens which are sometimes open to the public in May when the azaleas and rhododendrons are at their most spectacular. The games room, with its table tennis, billiard table and board games, is very popular. Within the garden grounds are a tennis court and a well stocked trout loch. It sleeps 16 and comprises

Access and location:

About 30 minutes south and north of Oban and Fort William respectively. They offer a fine choice of shops, restaurants and facilities. Nearby, Glencoe offers climbing and hill walking for all levels, as well as skiing and mountain biking. Two excellent seafood restaurants are within just a short drive. Direct flights and train services to Glasgow, Inverness, Edinburgh and Aberdeen.
